THE president, Maureen Timmins, welcomed members and one visitor, Kate Clarke.
Thanks were given to Tricia for a lovely flower arrangement and to Hilary for the raffle prize. Maureen spoke about the August walk and meal, which was enjoyed by all who participated. A suggestion that this walk should be repeated next year was accepted. The letter regarding the sale of WI House was read, we await further information.
The AGM will be held in November and Christine Hickman-Smith has agreed to be the attending WIA. This meeting would be the celebration of the first year of this WI and the committee hopes to make this an extra special meeting. Members were asked to sign the board to attend the Christmas dinner on December 1 at Bromsgrove School. The speaker was Graham Wren on The Farne Islands in summer.
Using slides, Graham showed the geographical position of the islands and the somewhat sparse flora. Mainly he concentrated on the tremendous variety of birds inhabiting the islands, with their varied habits, with regard to their nesting, rearing chicks, feeding and identification. Maureen thanked Graham for a most interesting talk.
