REDDITCH recorded a hard-fought victory in their first home match in Merit Division One.

They came under pressure from the start as the strong Lucts pack pinned them within their own 22.

But the Redditch defence stood firm and stern tackling prevented any score.

After 30 minutes of sustained pressure, Redditch broke free and were rewarded by a try from Lee Middleton.

Following the half-time break, Redditch continued to move the ball wide and 10 minutes later were rewarded with a second try when Tom Hirons scored on the right.

The ferocity of the game resulted in several injuries, however, despite several substitutions, Redditch managed to keep their form and were awarded a penalty try, after Karl Smith was high tackled. Middleton's conversion gave Redditch a 17-0 lead.

The visitors tried to respond but were constantly pinned back by resolute Redditch tackling and the Bromsgrove Road side struck again on the hour when Tim Aris scored the final try of the match ensuring the first two merit league points of the campaign.

Redditch head to Pershore in the Merit League on Saturday and will need to maintain their focus in order to record their first away win.
