BROMSGROVE police is warning owners to be on their guard following a spate of horse trailer thefts.
In the latest incident, which happened overnight on Friday, September 16, thieves stole a trailer from a field in Heath End Road in Belbroughton, near The Bell pub.
The vehicle, worth about £700, is a bright blue Peak two-horse trailer. PC Hilary Cleves, from Hagley, said: "It may be someone using The Bell pub recalls seeing the trailer being towed away without realising it was being stolen.
"There have been several horse trailers stolen across the West Mercia force area in recent weeks and we are keen to remind owners to be vigilant."
He said there are numerous ways thieves can be deterred.
"Get into the habit of using wheel clamps, hitch locks and heavy chains every time your trailer is left and check the requirements of your insurance policy, which may be invalid if these measures are not taken" he said.
"Also consider personalising your trailer. By using distinctive colours or patterns, or marking your trailer in bold letters with your postcode, you will make it instantly less attractive to a potential thief as it becomes so much harder to sell on illegally.
"It is also an idea to photograph your trailer then if it is stolen, a picture can be circulated with an appeal for information."
Anyone with information about the theft should contact PC Cleves on 08457 444 888 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
