ELDERLY and safety conscious residents have been left angry and disappointed following the vandalism of steps and safety railings.

Steps linking The Holloway to Rose Avenue and St Peters Crescent, in Droitwich Spa, were severely damaged by vandals some time between Friday, September 16 and Sunday, September 18. The steep steps are an important pedestrian link from the town to the Charles Henry estates and are widely used by residents in the area, especially the elderly and young moms and small children.

Town councillor Peter Pinfield (Lab-Droit Town) said: "I am angry that such mindless damage has been done to the steps and safety rail which are a benefit to all of us.

"Some idiot, probably drunk, over the weekend has smashed the rails and even lifted out the concrete posts that hold the rails. The link to late night drinking and the lack of a police presence only adds to anti-social behaviour that is not acceptable to the vast majority of us who live here."

Cllr Pinfield has now notified the police and asked the highways department at County Hall to fix the damage.
