SEVENTEEN B riders from the Eve-sham Wheelers set off towards the hills of the Cotswolds on Sunday passing through Badsey, Willersey, Childswick-ham and Stanway and on to Winch-combe for coffee.
They then proceeded through Greet, Teddington, The Combertons, Ashton-under-Hill and home after a pleasant 40 miles.
Martyn Cole completed his road-racing season with a good performance in the Beacon RC veterans RR on the same course used for the earlier Wheelers' own event.
This race formed the final round of the Percy Stallard National Series so another quality field of 40 riders from all over the country gathered on the start line.
The event covered 56 miles with the finish at Radford and a break of eight containing the usual group of ex professionals escaped after two laps and disappeared into the distance.
On the last lap, Cole attacked on the Weethley Bank climb and opened a gap but, with no help forthcoming, dropped back to the bunch again.
He attacked again out of Inkberrow with more success and he and a companion worked well together to keep the gap.
A mile from the finish and the pair were still clear and could now see the leading break just ahead. However, it was too late to close them down and Cole lost the two-man sprint to leave him in tenth place.
This Sunday's run will be to Long Compton via Edge Hill, leader Mark Brazier. Meet 8.30am for hilly Oxford-shire Cycleway test otherwise 9am for a ride catering for all abilities.
