IN his letter of Tuesday, September 20, L Spiteri yet again quoted my name to assist with his EU propagandist views.
He also wrote of the BNP, UKIP and Veritas, and suggested that because these parties achieved poor results in the last General Election then this somehow illustrated the British people's support for the EU.
Well, I'm a member of no political party, and I strongly resent any implication that I may be associated with any of these parties simply because I am against the advent of a federal European state.
Mr Spiteri is clearly out of touch with reality. The reason none of the "major" political parties used Europe as an issue at the election is that they agreed not to do so in an attempt to avoid further alienation in what is already one of the most ill-informed electorates in the continent of Europe.
The majority of people in the UK have no idea what the EU is all about. I've spoken to people who think "the euro" and "the EU" are one and the same thing. If Europe had been an issue in the election then people might have actually started to question what the EU was all about.
None of them, Labour, Conservative or Liberals want that, as the truth might eventually emerge. Basically, they're happy for people to know little of the true meaning of the EU because they're well aware that the truth would not be popular with most Britons.
A recent survey throughout the entire EU showed that 60 per cent of Europeans were either against the existence of the EU or had no preference one way or another. Only 40 per cent therefore were actually in favour of it.
You're in a minority Mr Spiteri. Why don't you just accept this and stop endlessly trying to impose your views on those of us that choose to disagree with you?
GARY WEBB,
Worcester.
