JOHN Hinton suggests those marchers in the Flashback photograph of Friday, September 9 could have been tramway workers escorting the last tramcar back to the depot on the Bull Ring.

It is true that, to my dismay and I think John's too, the last day of the trams in Worcester was May 31, 1928. However, the picture was evidently taken in broad daylight. The last tram trundled back to the depot at about 11.00pm, cheered by a large crowd. Even in late May it would have been dark by that time.

Also, if the marchers were ceremoniously escorting the vehicle, is it not likely that they would have been in uniform?

Incidentally, I was nine years old when those mighty tramcars ceased to operate in the Faithful City. I am now 86 but the vehicles are still bracketed in my "golden memories" with steam locomotives.

One other thing stands out in my memory of 1928 - Worcestershire CCC failed to win a single match all season!

D E MARGRETT,

Worcester.
