VIKRAM Solanki offered no excuses following Worcestershire's relegation to totesport League Division Two.

Captain Solanki described the County's 2005 campaign as "very disappointing" and admits efforts must be made this winter to assemble a side capable of gaining promotion in both the one and four-day league competitions.

"We could make a thousand excuses," said Solanki. "But at the end of the day, we have let ourselves down.

"It has been a very disappointing season. That is stating the obvious. As a group of players, we have not played well to warrant the success we would have liked. We didn't deserve much more than what we got. If you don't play well, you've got to stick your hand up and say we didn't play well. I'm afraid that's exactly what's happened.

"What's done is done. We can't do anything about the 2005 season any more. All we can do is focus our attention on the 2006 season.

"I can assure you there's been a great deal of thinking about the 2006 season already, in terms of the squad make-up and what we feel we need.

"Throughout the winter, I'm sure the guys on a personal footing will be trying to better themselves in some way so they can have a more successful year.

"Collectively as a team, there will be a real push in the winter."
