JOHN Brain believes Chris Fortey's character will shine through at Sixways.
The former Gloucester hooker, who swapped Kingsholm for Worcester this week, will be a big boost to squad morale, according to Brain.
The ex-Gloucester lock coached Fortey during his time at the Cherry and Whites and knows all about the 29-year-old's attributes.
"His character is just what is required at Worcester," he said. "He's dedicated, hard working and, off the field, he is a great addition as well as on it.
"He's extremely enthusiastic and positive -- a lot like his brother Lee. I think it's important to have people like that about. The reservation was that he was a one-club man. When we met him, Andy Keast and I wanted to assess his hunger.
"That's a key thing for us. He is hungry and he sees people like Andy Titterall going on the Lions tour and thinks 'I'm as good as that guy'.
"I honesty think he is at that standard and can get better. Before that, however, he needs to get to Worcester, knuckle down and get himself in the team."
Brain, though, understands the need to manage Fortey's aggression after the former England 'A' man built up a reputation for picking up the odd yellow card while at Gloucester.
"He's picked up more than his fair share of yellow cards in his time," added Brain.
"However, Andre Van Niekerk had that reputation before he came to Worcester and he has had a good season at Sixways.
"Tim Collier and Chris Horsman were the same. They both had reputations but they've been managed properly.
"I'd sooner have guys like that -- right on the edge -- and manage them than have shrinking violets at the club.
"It's all about getting the players to channel their aggression and try to reduce the yellow cards. You don't want people who shy away from confrontation.
"Chris is right there, he's in your face and that's exactly what I look for in a hooker."
