ANDY Gomarsall believes Matt Powell will provide him with a big Sixways challenge.

The England star, who has signed a three-year Worcester deal, will do battle with the Warriors' number one scrum-half who has enjoyed an ultra-consistent Premiership campaign.

And Gomarsall is under no illusions just how tough it will be to take that number nine jersey from Powell.

"Matt's had a fantastic season," said the 30-year-old. "He's had the luxury of a great forward pack and he's really revelled in that. His attacking play has been excellent and I think it's going to be a great battle."

Gomarsall's Worcester move came about after Kingsholm contract talks collapsed, leading to open criticism from director of rugby Nigel Melville.

The former Bedford man remains disappointed at the way the situation has been played out.

"It's been hard for me and there have been some tough times," said Gomarsall.

"I'm just disappointed that the Worcester move couldn't have come sooner but John Brain has made the decision very easy for me because they made me feel very wanted here at Worcester.

"The way it's going to end at Gloucester is very sad. I'm committed to Gloucester for the rest of the season and it's unfortunate that I won't be playing.

"Come next season, however, it's a new start and a great challenge. I'm looking forward to that because it's exactly what I need at this time of my career."
