WORCESTER Wanderers bowed out of the Powergen Junior Vase with a 44-7 hammering at Solihull.

The Sixways side were found wanting against a much superior Solihull who drafted in a couple of players from a higher division for the clash at Sharmans Cross Road.

Joph Young scored and converted Worcester's only try of the match and player-coach Steve Lloyd, whose Twickenham dream came to an end, was philosophical about the defeat.

"We were beaten by a much better side," he said.

"We probably gave away three or four stone in the pack and Solihull were clinical whereas we didn't quite have the composure when it mattered most.

"They went into our 22 three times in the first half and came away with three tries. That summed it up, they were a very good side."

Commenting on Solihull's ability to bring in players from National One outfit Pertemps Bees, Lloyd added that it wasn't a deciding factor.

"They may have brought a couple of players in but most of the team was the one which beat us at Sixways in the league in November," added Lloyd.

"I don't think they had any player on the field who is playing at National One level at present.

"They just looked a good, experienced side and, on the day, the best team won."
