WORCESTER Warriors will have to do without Ben Daly for up to three months.
The hooker has torn a bicep muscle and will undergo an operation on Friday.
Daly, a consistent performer for the Sixways side in the Premiership this season, suffered the injury after he was walking away from a training session.
"It was a bit of a freak injury," said Worcester's director of rugby John Brain. "He was walking, he straightened his arm and it just went.
"He'll now have surgery to repair the injury and then he will be in a cast before a rehabilitation period. We think he'll be out of action for two to three months.
"It's a blow for Ben because he's been playing well for us and he'll now miss some important games."
But Brain has ruled out a swoop for reinforcements with Sixways hookers Andre Van Niekerk and Chris Hall both fit to continue Worcester's Premiership push.
"We won't be bringing anybody else in," he said. "We've got two other hookers within the squad while Lee Fortey can also hook so it's not an injury crisis."
With Daly able to fill in at flanker, though, his absence has left a hole on the blindside with Leon Greeff now ruled out for the season with a dislocated knee.
Brain has therefore recalled Neil Mason from his loan spell at Coventry for Saturday's European Shield game in Rovigo.
"We'll review his situation after Saturday's game but we've told Coventry to expect that he'll be away for at least a week," said Brain.
Meanwhile, two of Worcester's brightest prospects have been called up for England sevens duty at the Commonwealth Youth Games.
Uche O'Duza and Alex Rae will travel to Australia for the Games, kicking off their campaign with matches against the Cook Islands, Samoa and Fiji on Thursday. If successful, they will progress to the latter stages the following day.
Worcester 'A' beat Newcastle Falcons' development team 21-15 at Sixways last night.
