KABIR Ali believes he can show ex-Worcestershire team-mate Glenn McGrath a thing or two this summer, if given the chance.
The seamer, England's leading wicket-taker in last winter's tour of South Africa, is in the squad for today's NatWest Series final with Australia at Lord's.
Although yet to feature in the series, his desire is to show McGrath what he is capable of, and to do that he will need to feature in the Ashes which start on July 21.
Kabir, 24, and McGrath were New Road team-mates in 2000 with the current County star learning a great deal from that time.
He said: "I have got no specific targets as regards the Ashes but I would love to show Glenn this summer just what I have learnt.
"The first target for me is to get on to the park because of the quality we have in the squad but, if I get the nod, I know I can do a decent job.
"What happened in South African gave me a lot of confidence and experience. That will be crucial because Australia are the best in the business.
"I know I'm still a newcomer to the international set-up and I would expect them to come after me if I play.
"They would target me but I'm up for the challenge. As a cricketer, you relish those days. People talk about their players but we've got star quality as well."
