A PARKING nightmare is in store for Worcester people in an area where planners have approved a revised plan for seven houses, a councillor has warned.

As part of a re-jigged application for 75 properties, seven three-storey town houses and seven parking spaces planned for Albion Mill have now been given the green light.

Previous proposals by Berkeley Homes to build 78 flats and houses in Mill Street and Portland Street - including six town houses at the mill - had already been agreed.

Discussing the changes on Thursday, Councillor Francis Lankester told Worcester's planning committee more consideration was needed about the 'massing' of the buildings.

"It does seem to me that it overlooks properties in the area to an unnecessary degree," he said.

Coun Mike Layland also raised parking as a problem in the area.

"You are condemning the people who are living down there to a nightmare," he said. "There is insufficient parking.

"It might satisfy the recommendations and guidelines given to us by someone outside of Worcester but the parking will not work."

Planning officer Paul O'Connor earlier told the committee parking would be "a tight squeeze" but acceptable and the height of the buildings was not much different to the original blueprint.

The plans were approved by seven votes to four, with two abstentions.
