MOVES to merge West Mercia police with a neighbouring force are nothing to do with efficiency. The whole agenda is about regionalisation.
This is the same regionalisation being imposed on the fire and ambulance services. It's all being driven by the EU.
The dream in Brussels is of a Europe of the Regions. Age-old identities are to be subsumed into statelets within states. That's the ultimate aim.
But in the meantime, they are getting us acclimatised to the idea by creating faceless juggernauts accountable to faceless civil servants.
Mid-Worcestershire MP Peter Luff seems to be becoming increasingly edgy about this relentless drift towards regionalisation.
However, this true blue will also know that 85 per cent of our legislature is now subordinate to EU laws. This being the case, what hope is there for any member of Her Majesty's Opposition making any difference?
Mr Luff is a fine constituency MP. But do stay away from beaches, Peter. The role of King Canute really doesn't suit you.
