MALVERN Town Reserves finally got back to winning ways with a much improved performance, defeating Bewdley Town Reserves 3-0 on Tuesday evening in the WFA Junior Cup.
MALVERN TOWN RES 3, BEWDLEY TOWN RES 0
Town looked more solid in defence, and much of this was due to skipper Rob Hopkins leadership and also support from a hard-working midfield. Bewdley to their credit closed Town down and managed to keep a clean sheet despite three close headers by Chris Fellows.
With four minutes on the clock in the second half, the Bewdley keeper dived full-length to turn a Raj Sharma effort around the post. Minutes later the deadlock was broken when Simon Baker delivered an inch-perfect pass to Fellows, who carried the ball 20 yards and fired past the keeper.
Wing-back Mike Oakes fashioned the next chance for Fellows with a superb cross but Fellows shot over the bar. Danny James looked marginally offside as he chased a through ball, and as his shot rebounded off the keeper's legs Dan Finnigan followed up and placed the ball into the empty net
Replacement Ed Lyons was next to find Fellows with a square pass inside the 18 yard box, and as the striker beat the keeper for his second goal, Mark Goodman followed up to ensure the ball crossed the line.
Town Reserves, who are sponsored by Laser Civil Engineering, have no game this weekend.
TENBURY UNITED 1, MALVERN TOWN RESERVES 1
TOWN Reserves travelled away to bottom side Tenbury United on Saturday and put in another disappointing performance on Saturday.
Once again Town took an early lead as Danny James crossed for Michael Oakes ad the left-wing was felled in the box. James hammered home the resultant penalty for a 0-1 lead.
In the second half Tenbury started playing with more confidence and their left-winger crossed well for their number nine to head home unchallenged.
THE previous Tuesday, Town Reserves visited Hinton in the league and suffered a 3-2 defeat.
Mark Williams and Chris Fellows were on target for the Town.
