MALVERN Town U16s visited Droitwich Spa Lions U16s in this Mercian Festival Junior League fixture and came away with a double-figure goal score.

DROITWICH SPA LIONS U16s 1, MALVERN TOWN U16s 14

This week it was Malvern who started the brightest with Paul Jordan scoring in the first minute. Droitwich rallied and within the following five minutes had shots across and over the goal. But on seven minutes Paul Jordan followed up a Ryan Mansbridge header to score his and the team's second. The goals then came thick and fast for Malvern with a goal-mouth scramble following a corner leading to a goal for Chris Wynne on 12 minutes and a minute later, a cross from Josh Brentnall found Ryan Mansbridge's head to make the score 0-4. Ricky Buckland made it five on 15 minutes and the goal of the match followed on 21 minutes when Malvern were awarded a free-kick on the half-way line, which Chris Wynne took and fired straight into the back of the net. Stand-in keeper Kurt Doyle managed to keep his gloves clean while Ryan Mansbridge scored his second on 34 minutes. Finally, on 36 minutes, Matt Hutchinson scored the first of his hat-trick making the half-time score 0-8.

The second-half started as the first-half finished with Matt Hutchinson scoring within the first minute. On five minutes Jonathan Griffiths scored for Malvern and Matt Hutchinson completed his hat-trick on eight minutes. After battling hard, Josh Brentnall made the score 0-12 on 34 minutes and Droitwich scored a consolation goal on 37 minutes. Paul Jordan finished the scoring with two goals in the last three minutes, one from a fine Josh Brentnall pass, making the final score 1-14.

LYPPARD HDN 0,

NEWTOWN SPORTS COLTS U15S 1

WITH Newtown Sports Colts suffering a few injuries, their reshaped team were run down to the wire by a competitive Lyppard HDN.

On a very uneven pitch and with a bouncy ball, Allison, Powell, Newell, Edwards and Scullion found it very difficult to retain any quality possession. Crane and Buckle spent most of the first half chasing hurried through-balls, although Edwards did have one chance, following a great move down the left, but his shot was well saved by the Lyppard keeper. Lyppard themselves had a couple of great chances, but Johnson was equal to their efforts. In the second half, the Colts maintained a better shape, with Elmes, Roskams and Morse looking more confident in defence. Hale and Budd gave the team some much needed energy as they looked to score. Newtown had several good chances from corners, but could not find an opening, and Lyppard themselves nearly scored with a breakaway attempt. However, with five minutes left, Crane released Budd with a great through-ball for him to coolly slot home the only goal of the match past his cousin. Newtown withstood a final onslaught from Lyppard to hold out for a hard-fought win.

NEWTOWN SPORTS JUNIORS U13s 11,

MALVERN TOWN WANDERERS U13s 1

THE Newtown Sports Juniors u13s enjoyed a comprehensive victory over local rivals Wanderers with Matthew Turner notching six goals.

The Juniors enjoyed sustained pressure on the Wanderers goal and opened the scoring when Turner out-sprinted the defence and netted. He doubled the tally minutes later when side-footing home.

The Juniors were playing some fine attractive football and Bannister was well set-up for his side's third, Turner poached a fourth, Bannister smashed home a loose ball for the fifth and Turner had scored the sixth by half-time.

The second period saw the Wanderers press and was rewarded when Adam Green was on hand to score after a fine save by Freeman. The revival was short-lived as the Juniors continued to press forward.

The pace of Turner and Watling was too much for the Wanderers defence and both waltzed through for the seventh and eighth. Mallett then volleyed home the goal of the game to make it nine and the tenth and 11th came courtesy of Bannister and Turner to complete the rout.

Man of the match was Matthew Turner.

NEWTOWN SPORTS GIRLS' U12s 3,

WARNDON WILDCATS GIRLS' u12s 0

NEWTOWN Sports U12 Girls' played their first Mercian League match of the season at home to Warndon Girls.

In a highly entertaining game, both teams tried to play football. Newtown started brightly, with Williams, Clements, and Elmes working hard in midfield against a tall Warndon team.

With the game flowing end-to-end, Emma Davies and Matthews-Jones had to be on their toes in defence, although Green in goal always looked comfortable. As the half wore on, Williams opened the scoring for Newtown with a fine goal following good work by Elmes and Clements. Newtown then extended their lead when McBain hit a close range shot after a skilful turn.

Georgina Davies, Mead and Douglas entered the game in the second-half, all giving great performances as Warndon looked to reduce the deficit.

However, with Newtown always looking threatening, Williams grabbed her second to complete a great win for the Girls.

MALVERN TOWN WANDERERS COLTS U11s 4, OLDBURY PARK TIGERS BOYS U11s 1

WANDERERS handed four players their debuts at their new home ground, Barnards Green Cricket Club, in a game played with great spirit.

Both teams started brightly, but it was Reece King of Malvern Town Wanderers who broke the dead-lock with a brilliantly-struck penalty. The lead was then doubled after a pin-point cross from Joel Wright gave Reece another chance to score. The half was finished off with some great defensive work from Josh Seaborne and Nathan Bass, allowing Reece to complete his debut hat-trick.

The second-half continued as the first had finished, Wanderers having most of the possession. Harry Kane battled away in the Wanderers midfield, dispensing almost everything Oldbury had to throw at him. Midway through the second half Brent Gibbs played a perfectly weighted pass to the waiting Stan Mason, who shot coolly past the stranded Oldbury keeper, making the score 4-0. Towards the end of the match Wanderers were put under pressure and Josh Lloyd made some fantastic saves only for Oldbury to score late on from a corner.

NEWTOWN COLTS U9s 1,

NEWTOWN JUNIORS U9s 1

THESE two young sides produced an entertaining local derby.

Newtown Colts made the early running with Alex Doyle at the heart of everything in midfield. The Colts gained a corner, which fell to Ben Finch, who fired home from eight yards. They could have scored moments later but Alex Doyle shot wide.

The Juniors then applied pressure but the defensive duo of Rob Watts and Ross Harniss kept them out with some brave defending.

The second-half saw Juniors on top but Colts goalkeeper Elliot Crump made some excellent saves.

The deadlock was broken when Sam Daffin went past a couple of defenders and shot, giving the Colts goalkeeper no chance. Both teams had chances to score but in the end the Colts can feel very proud of their achievements against their older rivals.
