THE first-ever Severn Vale Marching Band Competition, held at Upton on Saturday, was a great success.
Organised by Upton Youth Band, the event attracted 28 bands from all over the country.
"It was a brilliant day," said Alan Probert, of the organising team. "It was really hard work, but it was well worth it."
It was good for local musicians as well, since Upton Youth Band itself came third in its class, while its cadet band won its class.
"We had a great crowd, and we had a lot of support from local people and businesses, for which we're very grateful," said Mr Probert.
Linda Robinson, whose granddaughter plays in the cadet band, said: "It was a wonderful day. I talked to some of the visiting parents and they all said what a marvellous setting it was. It was so well organised."
