A vision for the future of public transport in Malvern was outlined this week.
More than 30 people came to a meeting on transport at Malvern Hills College on Wednesday to voice views.
Worcestershire County Council wants public transport to fit in with modern lifestyles to wean people away from their cars.
Its vision includes an integrated system of transport, linking private cars with buses, trains and taxis.
Most people welcomed the idea, but many worried it would still not provide what was really wanted - a frequent, reliable bus service around Malvern itself.
Others questioned whether the council could change the car culture, especially as currently a 20-minute car journey into Worcester takes around one and a half hours by bus.
Coun Sue Adeney said she was encouraged by what she heard but said people needed a stick, perhaps higher car parking charges, as well as a carrot to make them leave their cars at home.
"All these ideas need to happen quickly otherwise people will get disillusioned and go back to using their cars," she said.
