Excellence in building design was recognised by judges in this year's Malvern Civic Society Awards.
Five buildings reached the final stages of the competition, but it was Roger Raymond's home at The Hoo, in Brockhill Road, which won top prize.
Judges said Mr Raymond, who re-designed and converted the house himself, had transformed the building into a "stunning modern home".
They praised him for sparing no effort in finding exactly the right fixtures and fittings and adding thoughtful details. Landscaping work to the garden was also complimented.
"It was a 1930s building that had been refurbished in the 60s and was fairly unattractive," said Mr Raymond, who is a developer.
"I wanted to do something different instead of matching everybody else's style.
"I'm really pleased with the award, it's nice that people think the design works."
Mr Raymond will be presented with a special plaque on October 1.
Malvern Civic Society chairman John Dixon said the judges had been extremely impressed with the quality of this year's nominations.
"It's been a very good year for the awards," he said.
"The nominations were all of a very high standard."
Other nominations included Royal Albert Place apartments on Albert Road North, Santler Court on Worcester Road, Penny Cottage on Worcester Road and Croftdown on Abbey Road.
