INTERNATIONALLY acclaimed pianist Ian Jones plays at the Downs School, Colwall on Friday, October 7.

Mr Jones attended the Royal College of Music in London and completed further study in Paris, the USA and Canada before embarking on a successful worldwide performing career playing chamber music, concertos and recitals.

In 1993, he was a prize-winner at the prestigious Leeds International Piano Competition.

The recital is in aid of IndependentAge, a national charity that supports independence for more than 5,500 older people on low incomes. It provides friendship, financial assistance and equipment to aid independent living.

Sue Roberts, the charity's West Midlands representative, said: "It's a particular pleasure and privilege to be holding this concert as Ian Jones is the son of one of our volunteers.

"Many older people have no one to turn to, so this is when the friendship of a volunteer can make all the difference".

Doors open from 7pm and a bar will be available. The programme includes work by Chopin and other popular European composers.

Tickets cost £12.50 from Sue Roberts on 01432 354324 or e-mail priorsmead@wyenet.co.uk.
