MALVERN U17 Pirates claimed their first points in the North Midlands U17 League (South) with a comprehensive win over Ledbury U17s at Ross Road last Sunday.
The try scorers were: John Brierly (3), Craig Griffiths (3), Sam McCoy (4), Chris Reed (2), Bert Davis (2), Phil Shore and Matt Tighe. John Brierly kicked eleven conversions and Chris Reed and Sam McCoy claimed one apiece.
Malvern hooker Tom King received a yellow card from referee Sean Moloney for over-use of the boot, but even with 14 men on the field, the Pirates maintained their composure despite a spirited purple patch from the Ledbury side, who came very close to scoring on a number of occasions.
On Sunday, the Pirates entertain Ludlow U17s at Spring Lane. The Shropshire side have a very useful pack that restricted Worcester U17s to a 21-7 win last weekend, so the Pirates forwards are preparing for a titanic battle up-front. Kick-off is scheduled for noon.
