VISITORS to Severn Valley Railway's Kidderminster station on Saturday will be able to get copies of a new, illustrated edition of The Railway Children signed personally by Jenny Agutter - who played Bobbie in the 1970 film of the book.

The movie and television star will be at the station between 3pm and 5pm on the day after the centenary version of the book - The Illustrated Railway Children - goes on general sale.

She has a personal reason for helping launch the book, as 35 per cent of the proceeds from Saturday's sales at Kidderminster go to the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.

She also contributed her foreword to the book as her niece has cystic fibrosis - the UK's most common life-threatening inherited disease, which affects 7,500 babies, children and young adults in the UK.

The Railway Children, Edith Nesbit's ever popular story, follows the fortunes and adventures of Bobbie, Peter and Phyllis after they move from London to a house near a railway line in the country.

First published in 1905, it was serialised on television in 1967 before being adapted for the cinema.

The Illustrated Railway Children, by Edith Nesbit and edited by Will Adams, goes on sale tomorrow, published by Silver Link Publishing, with the ISBN number, 1 85794 254 X and costs £16.99
