STOURPORT crashed out of the Errea Southern League Cup, going down 2-1 at neighbours Bromsgrove Rovers.
But the game was delayed by 30 minutes while paramedics treated Swifts defender Andy Jones who had been knocked unconscious following a clash of heads.
The injury came on the hour. Jones and Bromsgrove's Mark Benbow both fell to the ground as they competed for a corner and, as players looked on anxiously, an ambulance was called to treat the Stourport player.
Rovers had opened up a 2-0 lead prior to the injury and had seemed set for an easy passage into the next round.
But Swifts finished strongly and should have taken the game into extra time.
Mark Danks opened the scoring from the penalty spot on 37 minutes with Leon Mitchell doubling the lead five minutes into the second half.
Stourport keeper Craig Ladek produced a number of good saves to keep the tally down while defender Exodus Geoh-aghan headed wide with the goal at his mercy.
But Swifts came strong at the end with Ronnie Sayer heading against the bar while Nathan Jackson, making his debut following a loan deal with Tamworth, shot wide after breaking through.
Duncan Willetts then sent a header soaring over the crossbar from close range before finally finding the net with the last kick of the game, drilling home a penalty after Alex Volosanovs had been felled.
Swifts (v Bromsgrove): LADEK 8, M Jones 7, Green 7, Colley 6, A Jones 6 (Childs 61, 6), Sayer 6, Willetts 6, Shirley 6, Jackson 6, Burgess 6 (Hawker 73), Mason 5 (Volosanovs 73). Subs (not used): Titterton, Atkinson.
The result continued a miserable week for Stourport as they were beaten 2-1 at home by basement club Thame United in the league on Saturday.
Willetts bagged the Swifts goal on the stroke of half-time but was then sent off in the closing stages following a clash with Thame substitute Nick Rhodes.
Alex Stuart and Wayne Spencer netted from corners to give the visitors a two-goal lead and that proved sufficient to hand them their first win of the season.
Swifts (v Thame): Ladek 6, M Jones 5, Green 5, A Jones 5, Webb 6, Shirley 5 (Colley 87), Sayer 5, Atkinson 6 (Volosanovs 77), Burgess 5, WILLETTS 7, Mason 6 (Small 89). Subs (not used): Childs.
