GOOD deeds by a Bewdley teenager have put him in the running for a police award.
Chris Edwards has been nominated for the Good Citizen of the Year award, run by West Mercia Constabulary.
The 16-year-old, of Wassell Drive, received a Good Citizen certificate from the force in June and is now on the shortlist to receive further recognition for his community work.
A ceremony will be held at Hindlip Hall, near Worcester, on Thursday, October 6 and the Good Citizen of the Year will be selected from the 12 nominees.
Chris, who attends a business administration course at Kidderminster College, said he was pleased to have been nominated, adding: "I think it is great. I do a lot of work for the youth club. I first got involved two or three years ago and it just started from there. I think it is really good that young people get awards for citizenship in Worcestershire."
He has done more than 200 hours as a voluntary youth worker and is a member of the youth centre committee in Bewdley.
He also worked with the police to help organise Bewdley's Party in the Park event last month. Chris said: "I was intrigued by last year's event, run by the police. I thought it was better to have a youth committee with young people on it, so I volunteered."
In addition, he represents the Wyre Forest on the Worcestershire County Council Youth Cabinet and recently helped to record talking books for children who are unable to read.
The teenager has also been helping to produce a Bewdley youth directory, which has details of groups and activities in the town centre for young people.
Each of the Good Citizen nominees will receive an extra award at the ceremony, including £50 and the person who comes top will receive a trophy and a further £100 to be divided equally with a charity of their choice.
Acting Inspector, John Dickinson, who organises Good Citizen for the force, said: "Everyone presented with Good Citizen certificates has shown that they are prepared to do that little bit extra to help others.
"October's ceremony is an opportunity for the force to thank again those who have, in our opinion, made a significant difference through their acts of generosity or courage."
