PUPILS at Salford Priors primary school have ditched the bag of crisps for fruit during break time.
Members of the PTA have launched a new initiative this term to ensure every child receives a piece of fruit for their mid-morning snack.
Chair of the PTA, Alison Atkinson said: "In light of all the attention on healthy eating we felt compelled as a PTA to do something. At present all infant children receive a free piece of fruit as part of a government initiative."
Teachers and PTA members have come together to make sure all junior pupils receive the fruit every Wednesday through a resident food supplier, Crabtree Nurseries.
Headteacher Pat Daly said she was thrilled with the success of the new initiative, as all the children have avoided fatty foods at break time every Wednesday.
Mrs Daly added: "All the children have eaten the fruit without any complaints and parents and teachers are working together to ensure pupils eat fruit throughout the rest of the week during break too."
