Bretforton Ladies 1,

Bretforton Ladies II 3

SATURDAY'S warm-up ahead of the start of the new league programme saw Bret-forton's two sides meet on the Evesham Astroturf.

The first team players were tired after previously playing a hard-fought match with Stourport while the under strength seconds were eager for the battle. Initial control by the junior squad was soon snatched by the senior side who made threatening moves on goal.

The opening goal came from excellent work up the wing with Ceri Barber taking control and smashing the ball into the net.

The first team were now determined and fought back and levelled with a strong short corner hit from Sophie Corbett that goalkeeper Fiona Lovecy made contact with but unluckily the ball was deflected into the net.

The second half enabled the fresher second string to produce good passing play and wingers Kelsey Smith and Sue Sheppard supported Bernie Amphlett in a successful move to see them retake the lead.

Further forays into the opposition defensive arena were made with Kay Amphlett showing skill and Lisa Work-man working hard to find space but despite several strikes at goal the ball was kept out.

Julie Hall was unlucky on several occasions when her efforts on goal were blocked by Lovecy who also saved Jane Wheeler's short corner strike.

Victory for the seconds was sealed when Shirley Aubrey slipped the ball neatly into the goal.

The senior team visits Bath Buccanneers on Saturday for a 12.30pm start, while the second team plays host to Dur-sley (9am) at the High School.

The club has a new coach in the shape of former Scottish international, Leigh Robinson.

"Jock" holds a Level 3 coa-ching certificate and any new players interested in joining the club will be made most welcome at training between 7 and 8pm every Wednesday.
