THE RSPCA is warning the people of Worcestershire not to buy puppies from the back of a van.

Following reports that breeders are selling puppies in this way, the welfare organisation is asking people not to buy their dogs from dishonest traders or the industry will continue to profit from the suffering of animals.

RSCPA chief inspector for the West Midlands Tim Scott said: "People may believe they are purchasing a fit and healthy pedigree dog and after parting with hundreds of pounds the buyer finds the animal soon becomes unwell.

"Unscrupulous traders sell on puppies which can be sick or dying and buying one from these people perpetrates the cruel and needless suffering of thousands of dogs bred purely for profit."

The public is being urged to get their pets from rescue centres or reputable breeders who are happy to let prospective owners see and spend time with the puppies and their parents before they purchase.

If anyone is concerned about the welfare of a puppy or breeding establishment they are urged to contact the RSPCA on 08705 555 999.
