Littleton 0, Knowle 1

LITTLETON'S season of woe continued last Saturday when they slipped to their second successive 1-0 defeat against high-flying opposition.

Again the hosts held the balance of play but, as much as they huffed and puffed, they just couldn't break down a rugged, resolute and at times ruthless Knowle rearguard.

On the whole this was a dour game. Littleton's pace up front in the shape of Hawley, Wright, Ron Steventon and later substitutes Staley and Greenwood, caused problems to the rather immobile Knowle defenders.

However, what they lacked in pace they made up for in experience and they were usually able to direct the attackers into non productive areas.

In midfield, the hosts battled hard and more than held their own while, at the back, the pace of Edwards and the experience of Cotton and skipper Beddoes kept the Knowle attack at bay with relative ease and ensured a quiet afternoon for keeper Harris.

The decisive goal arrived eight minutes from time following confusion in the Littleton area that led to the Knowle substitute netting from close-range.

Littleton are on county cup duty at Welland on Saturday.
