BROMSGROVE Rovers endured a nervy final half-an-hour before beating Stourport Swifts 2-1 in the Southern League Cup last night.

But the game will be remembered for a nasty injury which delayed the second-half for 30 minutes after Swifts defender Andy Jones clashed heads with Rovers midfielder Mark Benbow.

Jones swallowed his tongue in the collision at a Swifts corner in the 61st minutes and fell unconscious. Paramedics took him to hospital in Redditch.

Before the incident, Rovers had controlled the game with strikers Mark Danks and Leon Mitchell scoring before Duncan Willetts pulled a penalty back for Stourport with the last kick of the game.

Rovers were in control from the start in a game watched by 124 people and Mitchell was twice off target before 'keeper Craig Ladek tipped away Kevin Banner's rising shot.

Danks made the breakthrough from the penalty spot after Tom Colley brought him down in the 37th minute. Mitchell made it 2-0 five minutes into the second-half when he bundled the ball home after Ladek dropped his shot.

Nathan Jackson and Willetts both went close in a Swifts fightback before the striker scored from the spot after a foul by 'keeper Tim Clarke on John Shirley.
