Loughborough 1 Fairfield Villa 2
SPENCER Kenwood bagged a second half winner as Fairfield Villa kept the pressure on the Midland Combination Division One leaders Handsworth on Saturday.
Victory keeps rejuvenated Villa second in the table after seven games.
While Fairfield's early season success has been down to their watertight defence, conceding two goals all season, Handsworth have been the opposite, averaging four goals a game.
However, joint manager Lee Shaw felt that his side would be able to handle the goal hungry leaders.
He said: "Handsworth are scoring a lot of goals at the moment. But they are not unbeatable as they lost to Knowle last week.
"But I think it would take an experienced team to work them out."
On Saturday Villa were forced to work hard by Loughborough to win the game.
Steve McGlenn's far post header handed Villa the lead, but Loughborough levelled the scores in the first half.
Fairfield pushed for the lead again and Kenwood scored 15 minutes from the end.
Shaw said: "I didn't think Loughborough were that good, we probably should have won a bit more comfortably."
l Richard Culson and Nathan Turner are pushing Villa managers Paul Oakes and Shaw for a start in Saturday, September 24's Worcestershire Junior Cup game at Division Three Perrywood (2.45pm kick off).
Both players have been unable to get into the side because of Villa's excellent start to the season.
