Droitwich Spa Town Council's Droitwich in Bloom winners were announced at the event in the community hall, in Heritage Way, last Thursday night.

Spa mayor Cllr Richard Morris (Con - Droit South East) led the ceremony in front of a packed audience.

The best school garden category was a very tough contest, according to the judge from Worcester Garden Centre.

She said all the gardens were well maintained and many children had grown their own seeds and then planted them out.

Chawson First School scooped third place, St Peter's First School got second place but Witton Middle School received the top title.

The best allotment went to Mr W Searle who won a range of gardening tools.

The hanging basket contest was won by Mr J Ingleston who received a container filled with flowers.

The mayor also judged the communal gardens section and he said everyone should be proud of their efforts.

Top prize was scooped by Dorset House.

The best kept garden was won by Chris and Sue Gibbs, of Charles Henry Road, and they also clinched the best overall winner.

The pair of gardening gurus retained the coveted title they won last year.

Speaking to the Advertiser at the ceremony, Sue said: "We are passionate gardeners and we have re-designed the garden by ourselves.

"There are so many different materials about that everyone should have a go at gardening.

"People should look at what they want and what they like and go with the flow.

"Gardening programmes are good but residents should come up with their own ideas too."
