Gray by name, gray by nature! This latest album may have taken three years to produce but the sound remains the same.

White Ladder was a ground-breaking contribution from the soulful Mr Gray but he has never reached those heady heights since with each new tome sounding just like the last.

Life in Slow Motion threatens to differ. It is the first time the musical maestro has abandoned his bedroom mixing desk and headed for the professional recording studio.

And the new 'fuller' sound is there in abundance as the album kicks off with Alibi. There is a whole minute of haunting melodies and the sumptuous sound of Gray's musicianship. Alas, the album is downhill all the way from then.

One or two tracks do their best to lift Life in Slow Motion, notably the ballad From Here You Can Almost See the Sea and Ain't No Love. But the remainder just merge into one dreary string of tunes that prove instantly forgettable.
