PETE Boyles failed in his gallant attempt to lift the Earlystocks National Championship and the Mallory Park EMRA 750 title.

The Vale racer, on board a modified Suzuki GSX750, was in Anglesey for the penultimate meeting of the Earlystocks, taking the track in second spot overall four points adrift of leader Mick Baillie.

Hazardous track conditions handicapped both men in the opener but it was Baillie who emerged victorious by a mere four-tenths of a second.

The conditions had improved by the time the second race got under way and Boyles led from the start.

However, Baillie showed his ability as he regained first place on several occasions after a topsy-turvy tussle and he stayed ahead at the chequered flag with Boyles a little under a second adrift.

The opening race on the next afternoon again saw Boyles take the lead as he attempted to reduce the deficit that was now eight points.

And, the Evesham racer stormed to victory by four seconds to keep alive his faint title chances only to again be undone by his championship rival next time out.

Boyles, though, set a class lap record as he took the race by storm only to run off the track on lap four at a difficult chicane.

The Vale man was still in there battling on the final lap but yellow flags prevented him from attempting an overtaking manoeuvre and the pair were separated by just a second at the finish.

The final rounds took place at Mallory last weekend when Boyles' only hope was that Baillie failed to finish one of the races.

That didn't happen as the new title holder won both races despite two more valiant rides from the Vale ace.

Boyles was left runner-up in both standings after a busy season that took in 16 rounds and 32 races that he couldn't have completed without the support of Clive Wadey from Paxford Garage.
