THE last battles of the speed hill climbing season will be fought out at Prescott this weekend when the Bugatti Owners' Cub stages its final major event in the 2005 Speed Hill Climb calendar.

In the prestigious Clarks BMW Motorcycles Midland Championships, Welsh ace and 2003 winner Robert Kenrick appears to have the title in his grasp after a successful season in his Honda-powered Caterham sports car.

After seven of the nine rounds his tally is an impressive seven class wins and two class records.

The Midlands title is based on class results at nine events - three each at the three Midland hills at Prescott, Loton Park and Shelsley Walsh.

The Top Ten Challenge looks like a close finish between two of the sport's fastest and most experienced drivers - Willem Toet (Brackley) and Roger Moran (Ludlow) - who are currently second and third in this year's British Championship.

It's the decider too for the close-fought Paul Matty Sports Cars Classic Challenge where Cheltenham's Martin Jones is well-placed in his Ginetta racer.

The Bugatti Owners' Club's own Prescott Gold Cup goes to the club member who does best against a target time for the class during the season.

A large number of local drivers are in the line-up. Tony Hunt is a frontrunner in the extremely competitive 1600cc racing car class, while Edward Tyack (Moreton-in-Marsh) returns with his classic Ginetta sports racer.

Practice is on Saturday from 9.30am with the competition starting at 10am the next day. Adult admission is £10 on Saturday and £15 on Sunday, accompanied children under 14 are admitted free and parking is free.

Blockley's Bryan Eccles is also among the entries.
