Worcester Concert Club's new season is approaching with the promise of a varied and interesting programme including one of the world's most acclaimed guitarists.

John Williams is the starring attraction for the autumn programme and will play on Sunday, November 13, at Huntingdon Hall.

Sunday afternoons at 3pm at Huntingdon Hall, Deansway is the venue for the concerts with the first one this taking place this Sunday September 25, when Zephyr Winds, a small ensemble of woodwind instrumentalists will perform Konzertstuck, Op.114 by Mendelssohn. Pianist Ian Buckle will join the musicians for Mozart's Piano and wind quintet in E flat, KV.452; music by French composers will feature too.

WCC aims to encourage and promote some younger and locally connected artistes, thus on November 6 there will be an opportunity to hear Eleanor Piercy (violin) and Irina Lyakhovskaya (piano) performing in music of the greatest Romantic composers.

As the season progresses, concerts will encompass Florilegium in Purcell's London in which early music of the 16th Century will be prominent. James Oxley (tenor) and Caroline Dowdle (piano) will interpret Schubert's great song cycle Die schone Mullerin, a piano recital by Peter Bradley-Fulgoni will embrace works by the masters, including Beethoven and Rach-maninov, and string quartets by Mozart and Ravel will appear in the concert by Quatuor Parisii.

A series of Sunday lunch-time concerts will marry the association of classical with other genres of music.

A discount for the John Williams concert is available with a season ticket.
