WORCESTERSHIRE off-spinner Gareth Batty has been snubbed from England's winter touring party to Pakistan.
The England selectors in-stead plumped for Warwickshire's Alex Loudon and Hampshire veteran Shaun Udal to join Ashley Giles in the 17-man Test squad's spin department.
But Batty has been included in the ECB National Academy squad, along with County's improving 19-year-old wicket-keeper/batsman Steve Davies.
"The area that involved the most discussion was the choice of spin bowlers," said selectors chairman David Graveney.
"Shaun Udal is an experienced spinner and based on his performances this summer we felt he merited inclusion ahead of other candidates such as Gareth Batty, Richard Dawson and Graeme Swann."
Worcestershire captain Vik-ram Solanki has kept his place in England's one-day squad.
Test Squad: Vaughan, Anderson, Bell, Collingwood, Flin-toff, Giles, Harmison, Hoggard, G Jones, S Jones, Loudon, Piet-ersen, Prior, Strauss, Trem-lett, Trescothick, Udal.
Additions to ODI squad: Plunkett, Solanki. Omissions to ODI squad: Bell, Hoggard, Loudon, Udal.
