West Malvern's gardeners will have the chance to show their skills at the Garden & Nature Club's annual show at the village hall. tomorrow (Saturday).

There will be the usual range of classes for plants, flowers, vegetables, home-made produce and photographs and a good display is anticipated. The competition is open to anyone and would-be exhibitors can obtain a schedule from show secretary Sheila Campbell at Rosedale, off Park Road (near Adelaide House), 01684 573915.

Exhibits can be set up between 11am and 1.30pm, when the hall will be closed for judging. It will re-open to the public at 2.30pm, with the presentation of the anniversary trophy for best exhibit taking place at 3.15pm.

Looking further ahead, it is excellent news that the traditional and ever-popular Guy Fawkes bonfire and fireworks display will be taking place at Rouse's Farm once again this year, with all the usual features.

Last year it did not take place due to a steep rise in insurance premiums. This year, however, the insurers have greatly reduced the rate after organisers Tony Poyner and Ian Clayton attended a safety training course at Cardiff. More details nearer the date.

Hills Conservators staff have been hard at work in recent days making extensive and long-awaited improvements to the surfacing and drainage of the track between Westminster Spout and the top of the Dingle - something that will be warmly welcomed by regular users.

Sunday newspapers are once again for sale in West Malvern. A selection is now available from at the Brewers' Arms from 9.30am every Sunday morning.
