A WARNDON pub is expected to more than double in size and take on a new name as part of a £500,000 overhaul.
The Poachers Pocket, pictured right, in Berkeley Way, has applied to extend into its courtyard area to create more space inside the pub - making it two-and-a-half times its current size.
If planners agree, it is likely to close in November for the work to commence, and could remain closed over Christmas for the extension to be completed. When it reopens it is due to be named The Haywain, according to assistant manager Rob Grealy.
"The company decided that we are to become one of the two biggest pubs they own and plan to make us quite a bit bigger," he said.
"Of course it's good news for us and nice to be expanding. I think it's about a half million pound development and in the future we will be able to cover around 250 people."
Owners Pathfinder Pubs applied to Worcester City Council to extend the building last week, and planning officers are now considering the proposals.
