Last Friday (September 9) at approximately 1pm, I approached the Three Counties crossroad traffic lights from the direction of Hanley Swan. I turned right at the lights from Hanley Road into Blackmore Park Road only to be confronted by a queue of vehicles some 20m in front of me. This situation was not visible when the right turn commenced.
The line of vehicles in front of me were progressing at about a vehicle's length per four minutes. It became apparent that the delay was caused by the slow entry of vehicles from both directions into the showground to attend the camper van rally.
My worry was not the 20 minute delay I suffered in my journey but the traffic hazard caused by the build-up of vehicles behind me back to the traffic lights.
Even with the installation of traffic lights, the junction is a notorious blackspot and I just marvel that a serious road accident did not occur.
Surely the show organisers could have had a holding compound just inside the entrance where vehicles could have waited while admissions were processed, thus avoiding any traffic hazard.
