PART of Colletts Green was plunged into darkness when vandals put street lights out of action.
Residents noticed on Saturday morning that 17 lamps in The Drive and Bramley Close had been tampered with, but it was not until nightfall that they realised the full extent of the damage.
"Someone had prised open the boxes on the lighting columns and ripped the works out of them," said county councillor Tom Wells, who was inundated with calls.
The lights belong to Powick Parish Council and are maintained on their behalf by Worcestershire County Council, which sent in contractors to repair them on Monday morning. The bill is expected to be between £250 and £300.
