Bromyard got back to its musical roots at the weekend when the town staged its annual folk festival.

The heavy rain that disrupted events elsewhere in the area on Saturday, largely spared the 38th event.

"The heavens did open in the afternoon and I dived into the nearest marquee," said co-organiser Annie Jones.

"I was a bit worried, and a few of the outdoor events had to be cancelled, but generally everyone got on with it.

"People know what to expect and they come here with wellies and so on."

As well as the main festival site at Bromyard Town FC's ground, concerts, song sessions and musical workshops took place on Saturday and Sunday in pubs and other venues across the town.

They included morris dancers, fiddlers, singers and every variety of folk performers. Headline acts included Patrick Street and Jez Lowe.

"I think there were over 70 different events in all. It's a pretty lively festival," said Mrs Jones.

"We had about 2,300 people this year, including visitors and performers, which is about what we had last year."

One visitor who came further than most to attend the festival was Brad McEwen.

"He's one of our regulars who comes all the way from the USA," said Mrs Jones.
