STUDENT Anna Musgrave is raising money to help the children she met last summer in an orphanage in Thailand.

Anna, from Castlemorton, spent six weeks as a volunteer at the orphanage in Lamphun and described conditions there as "extremely basic".

Run by the Thailand Christian Outreach Centre, the home for 40 children desperately needs money to provide basic necessities and eventually to buy land to build several smaller purpose-built homes.

Anna, a medical student, got involved with the charity which runs the orphanage during her gap year and hopes to go back there next summer.

She said the orphanage had three basic dormitories for the 40 children aged three to 18, outdoor showers and a tiny kitchen.

There was a small outdoor area with a climbing frame and a terrace used as dining room, homework area, play area and for food preparation.

"They desperately need money to provide basic necessities for the children," explained Anna.

"I'd like to help and I'm organising several events between now and Christmas to raise funds to send out there."

These include a charity ball at Malvern Girls' College in December, a prize draw and a coffee morning.

The coffee morning, Anna's first charity event for the Thai orphanage, will be held at Folliott House, Castlemorton, tomorrow (Saturday), from 10am-noon. Admission is £1.50 and there will be a raffle, cake stall and bring and buy.
