THE last three events bringing this year's Velo Club Sevale club time-trials to an end attracted a record entries.
Twenty-three riders competed in the last 10-mile time-trial on the Severn Stoke/A38 course, with guest rider J Dayus winning with his time of 21min 8sec.
Best VCS rider was supervet Mike Amery, whose time of 23min 11sec proved too fast for Brian Boswell on this occasion.
The fastest 10 riders were: J Dayus 21.08, R Wood 21.21, G Poupart 22.07, M Amery 23.11, S Mahon 23.19, B Boswell 23.20, D Wood 23.27, S 'Toole 24.08, D Dowdeswell 24.24, B Mellor 25.16.
The hill climb using Ankerdine, organised as an inter-club event with Worcester St Johns CC, attracted a field of 28 riders, with WSJ rider Gavin Poupart flying up the hill in three minutes. Brian Boswell provided the fastest VCS time as usual retaining his title of club hill climb champion.
The fastest 10 times were: G Poupart 3.00, S Price (WSJ ) 3.17, I Treadwell 3.18, B Boswell 3.19, J Newey 3.28, T Ashworth 3.31, J Bristow 3.34, V Page 3.37, S Bellamy 3.41, N Preece 3.44.
The final event of the year, a 5.5 mile time trial on the Hanley Swan circuit, saw 25 riders turning up, no doubt attracted by the free beer and sandwiches provided by the club after the event.
Fastest man on the night was guest WSJ rider Gavin Poupart who was unlucky not beat the 12 minutes barrier.
The best 10 times were G Poupart 12.01, M Amery 12.40, B Boswell 12.40, W Davies 12.47, S O'Toole 13.04, N Stinton 13.07, M Potter 13.13, J Howell 13.15, B Mellor 13.34, T Wood 13.35.
Three veteran club members, Steve Price, Sean O'Toole and Mike Amery competed in a 12-hour event in South Wales, Mike's 228.77 miles placed him 26th out of 70 starters, Sean was 34th with 223.01 miles, and Steve did an excellent first 12-hour ride of 215.82 miles, coming 38th. Kevin Minski provided much-valued help during the event.
The event was won by S Childs, Royal Navy and Royal Marines CA, with 260.49 miles.
