MALVERN second's season came to an end on Saturday with a resounding win over Hagley.

Even after letting top spot in the league slip in the last few weeks and with the rain barely letting up all game, their spirits never dropped, chasing 250 to win by six wickets and 12 overs remaining.

Great contributions by all the Malvern players this season brought about a highly successful year. Early wins set the tone; Andy Cullen and Tom Grove with a 120 run partnership to win by nine wickets at Nomads and Mark Mitchell thumping 11 4s and a 6 to bring the team home at Bromyard.

Other memorable batting performances included cameo appearances from Steve Carter with a high of 91no at Pedmore, skipper Rich Cullen with 92 in the same game and Ray Evans threatening a nearby wedding at Hagley with some huge sixes.

The most consistent appearances this year came from Dan Besgrove and Neil Thompson racking up big totals almost weekly and ending up with 700 runs between them.

With the ball, Martin Mudway showed the way with 220 overs for the season picking up numerous crucial wickets, including two five-wicket hauls. Mark Mitchell bowled aggressively early season before injury took hold, with good support from spinners Andy Croft (best of 5-39 at Nomads) and Dan Besgrove (an amazing 4-3 at Bromyard).

Later in the season Malvern's youth came through with some excellent bowling from Johnny Dovey and accurate fast bowling from Mike Cunneen.

There was also great ability in the field with good catching from Ian Laws, Ian Walwyn and Ben Hughes with Andy Cullen and Tom Grove always aware behind the stumps.

Thanks to all of the 28 members who played this season which also included a number of appearances from Paul Jauncey, Ben Peachey, Ian Dovey and Charlie Heritage.
