GROUPS dedicated to protecting Droitwich Lido have reacted to news of new plans for a 21st Century site.
At Tuesday's Wychavon District Council meeting, it was announced that proposals for a new Lido would be discussed later this month, although the details of the plans remain a mystery.
Coun Paul Middlebrough hinted that calls for an outdoor pool with salt water had been considered but expressed concerns that some campaigners were living in the past.
In order for the new site to open next summer, the council asked for permission to knock down an old indoor pool.
Ian Wild of The Friends of Droitwich Spa Lido And Its Park, said: "If we turn the Lido into an attraction for the here and now, there is a risk it will be regarded as a fad and fail in a few years."
He added that it was vital every option be explored before the demolition of the indoor pool.
Mr Wild expressed concerns that the introduction of a free wet play area would compromise the heritage of the site and the conservation area.
Linda Watkins, Chair of Save a Lido Today said: "We are hopeful of open public consultation when the plans are released.
"It is sad that the indoor pool has to be demolished and hope that when demolition takes place it does not interfere with any other part of the Lido."
