HUNDREDS of people gathered at St George's Church in Kidderminster to bid a final farewell to popular district councillor, Maureen Aston.
Family and friends of 62-year-old Mrs Aston were joined at the civic ceremony by countless Wyre Forest district councillors and chief executive, Walter Delin, as well as mayors of Kidderminster, Stourport and Bewdley and Kidderminster's charter trustees.
Wyre Forest MP, Dr Richard Taylor, also attended the service, which included a tribute to the district councillor for Aggborough and Spennells by district council leader, Stephen Clee.
There were readings by district council chairman, Stephen Williams, cabinet member for environment and economic regeneration, James Dudley, and Conservative Party parliamentary spokesman for Wyre Forest, Mark Garnier.
The service, last Thursday, was followed by a committal at Stourbridge Crematorium.
Tributes flooded into the Shuttle/Times and News office after Mrs Aston died last month after slipping into a coma following a fall at home.
She was described by her devastated husband, John, as a "lovely, lovely lady, who inspired love and respect in everyone she met."
