BEWDLEY Tennis Club completed their 2005 Club Championships with a thrilling display of tennis from the youth and experience amongst their ranks.
In the ladies singles, Mandy Sylvester retained her title by defeating her doubles partner Alison Rosoman 6-2, 6-0 with some excellent tennis.
Sylvester and Rosoman had already secured their ladies doubles title over Michele Lace and Sue Brennan in a well fought game 6-1, 7-5.
The men's singles title was keenly contested in a well-balanced match between Paul Marchant and Jim Sylvester.
Marchant eventually secured his first ever singles trophy marching to a 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 victory.
In the Boys' U18 singles, Sam Elliott defeated Alastair Barton 6-3, 6-4 with both youngsters showing the promising potential in the junior ranks.
Marchant and J Sylvester went head to head again in the men's doubles final.
Marchant teamed up with Paul Bennett to retain their title 6-0, 7-6, 6-4 against J Sylvester who was partnering Jason Curtis.
The match of the day was the handicap mixed doubles with Laurence McCoy and Jan Ferguson conquering Tom Rosoman and Meg Clay 6-7, 6-4, 6-4 after two-and-a-half-hours of action.
M Sylvester pipped Paul Marchant to a hat-trick of victories in the mixed doubles final.
Mandy and husband Jim Sylvester defeated Marchant and Dawn Gumbly 6-1, 6-2 to win the mixed doubles title.
In the final event of the day the experienced Mike Rosoman held off the resolute Brian Holyman 6-4, 6-3 in the veterans men's singles.
Club president Lily Doley presented trophies to the winners and runners up in the clubhouse, which has been splendidly refurbished by a team of volunteers led by Judy Knight.
The club will have its official trophy presentations at a dinner dance on Saturday 1st October.
Meanwhile, M Sylvester and Gumby will compete in the national BWTA finals at the indoor courts at Wimbledon in Novemember after progressing through the qualifiers in Bath.
