KIDDERMINSTER'S St John Ambulance brigade has been boosted after the donation of new "vital" equipment presented in memory of a former member.

Mabel Allen presented the group with two rechargeable torches and a pulse oximeter, worth over £600, in tribute to her late husband, Jim.

The couple, who were married for 52 years, were both members of the organisation and were awarded the prestigious titles of Serving Brother and Sister of the Service.

Mrs Allen, who lives in Skylark Way, Kidderminster, asked people to donate money instead of flowers after her husband died in April.

She said: "Our daughter was also in the brigade so it really was a family thing. I have some wonderful memories of our time with them.

"I think this is a fitting tribute to Jim and he would have liked it. He was such a loving and gentle man."

Graham Saunders, superintendent for the Kidderminster division of St John's Ambulance, said: "We are very grateful for the donation from Mrs Allen. The new equipment will help us provide a better service for the community."
