FORMER fan favourite Matt Lowe is set to make a return to Bromsgrove Rovers' first team for Saturday's Southern League Division One West game at home to Burnham (3pm kick off).

Lowe makes a surprise return in goal for Rovers because new number one, Lee Evans, is suspended for one match.

The keeper, who has already enjoyed two spells at the Victoria Ground, returns as an experienced back up to Evans for the rest of the season.

Coach Bernard Mackie said: "Matt is well known to us and of course is very experienced, so we're delighted to have him back."

Lowe was first choice goalkeeper the whole of last season, but retired after the play-off final loss to Evesham United.

He had been training with Halesowen, but was eager return to Rovers.

Striker Chris Smith is set to be fit for Saturday's league clash, despite having to be taken to hospital in Redditch, after he was knocked unconscious in Saturday's FA Cup win over Newcastle Town.

Defender Ross Collins has also recovered from the rib injury he sustained a month ago and might make Saturday's game, or the Southern League Cup match at home to Stourport Swifts on Tuesday, September 20 (7.45pm kick off).

Mackie said: "Ross is looking good and should be back for either Burnham or Stourport."

Mackie also allayed fears that defender Phil Male is going anywhere, after Sutton Coldfield Town put in a seven-day bid for him last week.

He said: "Phil's happy where he is and none of us at the club want him to go."

Midfielder Wayne Dyer is set to face his old club after Rovers were drawn at home against Hinckley United in the FA Cup second qualifying round on September 24.
